A Walk on the Beach
First photos of 2026
The other day, I received some great advice from another photographer and decided to put it into practice. The last week of December, he told me, he removes all the photos from his phone and cloud storage, organizing and storing them on a hard drive.
This forces him to go out and create new images with his camera. If he wants to share something, he has to actually make something.
It’s brilliant.
So, that’s exactly what I did last yesterday. My phone and iCloud are clear of photos and videos. It took forever, but I’m already so glad I did.
We are incredibly fortunate to live in a place where we can walk to the Indian Ocean in about 15 minutes. The views are incredible. So, I decided to head down to the beachfront plaza and see what there was to see. I got some madafu and cassava chips from a street vendor and pulled out the camera when something struck me. All of these are photographed on my Canon RP with the 50mm lens.
Enjoy, and Happy New Year!
Everything I share at Practicing Light is freely given. If you’d like to support my work, you can buy me a coffee, but please don’t feel any pressure.
